The Parish and Community of Castel, Guernsey
Church of Ste Marie du Castro The 'Parish' church of Ste Marie du Castro is named for it's location on the remains of what were originally an 'Earth Mother" site and also the remains of a Roman fort. There is a Neolithic statue in the churchyard and Roman tiles in the East wall. The church appears to have been consecrated in the 13th century, but there are traces of an earlier building on the site.
